The merit of this work is understanding the social conditions of education. Comenius is preoccupied here with pupil, not with teacher. He divides education into four stages each of them having six years:
1 - 6 years - "maternal" school
7 - 12 years - "national" school
13 - 18 years - "Latin" school
19 - 24 years - university
